Executive Summary

Kyle and Buda is the fast-growing I-35 corridor along the northern edge of Hays County, anchored by the historic rail towns of Kyle and Buda and reaching east into the Uhland farmland. At 132,671 residents it is one of the larger CCDs in the metro and the largest of the three in Hays County. It is a young, family-anchored region rooted in homeownership, with a median age of 34.8 and three-quarters of occupied housing owner-occupied, where more than 80 percent of homes have gone up since 2000. It is also one of only two CCDs in the metro where Hispanic residents form the largest single group, carrying a Tejano inheritance deepened by new arrivals into Plum Creek, Bunton Creek, and the Buda ETJ. The commute is among the longest in the region, carrying most workers north and east each morning.

The church picture is thinner than the growth, with roughly one church for every 2,503 residents, close to the metro-wide average even as housing has outpaced the region's gospel footprint for two decades. Yet Kyle and Buda holds the deepest Spanish-language and bilingual congregational cluster of any CCD studied so far, layered over two old town stories and a historic Black Baptist witness. Local faith-forward nonprofit infrastructure is nearly absent, an open invitation for the church to build. What follows is a demographic and spiritual portrait of Kyle and Buda, paired with prayer prompts to help the church here pray with discernment for a region that is being blessed in order to bless.

The local church sits at the center of everything God is doing in Kyle and Buda. She is not one ministry among many but the community Jesus promised to build and the one he sends into the world, the gathered people through whom the gospel is preached, disciples are formed, the weak are carried, and the good news becomes visible to a watching region. No parachurch ministry, nonprofit, or network can replace her or reproduce what she is. Whatever else happens in this CCD, the health of its congregations is the first thing to pray for, because everything else depends on it.

So prayer for Kyle and Buda should hold three things together. Pray first for the church in her many forms to be strong and faithful at the center. Pray for the fuller ecosystem of ministries around her, the planting and renewal and the specialized callings, to grow where it is thin. And pray for the relationships of trust among leaders across this region, because it is through a united and interdependent church that the prayer of Jesus, in Kyle and Buda as it is in heaven, comes to Kyle and Buda.

An Anchor from God's Word

Few scriptures could be more specifically fitted to Kyle and Buda than the one about being blessed in order to bless the nations. This is a CCD that has been measurably blessed. Median household income sits above the MSA average. Homeownership runs three quarters of all occupied housing. New houses, new schools, and new neighborhoods are still going up along FM 1626, Bunton Creek, and the Plum Creek corridor. And the Lord has gathered into this region something rarer than affluence. He has gathered the nations themselves. Hispanic residents are now the largest single group in this CCD, the Spanish-speaking and bilingual congregational footprint here is among the deepest in the Austin metro, and the Catholic, Baptist, and non-denominational pews of Kyle, Buda, and Uhland already hold the breadth of South Central Texas in one body. Psalm 67 reframes both gifts under one purpose. The blessing of this CCD is not for itself. The blessing is for the sake of the nations God has already drawn here, and for the nations beyond who are watching what the Church does with what she has been given. The invitation to the Church in Kyle and Buda is to receive the gracious face of God afresh, to receive the diversity of this region as a sign of his nearness rather than as a complication, and to live as a region that is blessed in order to bless.

Prayer Prompts for Kyle and Buda

For the Presence of God Among His People in This Region

"If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here."

Before praying for anything the churches of Kyle and Buda might accomplish, pray first that God himself would be manifestly present among his people in this CCD. This was Moses' refusal at Sinai, not another step forward without the Lord himself going with them. It was the early church's first corporate cry after persecution, not escape or strategy but boldness and the stretching out of God's hand (Acts 4:29-30). Ask the Spirit to pour himself out afresh on the 53 active churches of this CCD in every form the Church takes here, from the 154-year-old Baptist sanctuary on West Center Street in Kyle to the 2026 charismatic plant on Barton Crossing in Buda to the bilingual Catholic mass in Uhland. Kyle and Buda does not need faster growth. Kyle and Buda needs God.

For Households That Settle Down in a Region of Constant Arrival

"Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat their produce... seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf."

The defining feature of this CCD is new housing. More than 80 percent of the homes in Kyle and Buda have been built since 2000, and over half have been built since 2010. Young families are moving in faster than the Church has capacity to receive them, and the median home value of $367,800 has drawn diverse buyers from across Greater Austin and beyond. Pray that the Lord would build these households, not merely that the houses themselves would stand. Pray for marriages formed under the pressure of long commutes and two-income rhythms. Pray for parents catechizing children in homes that closed last spring. Pray for the Hispanic family in Plum Creek, the multi-generational Tejano family in old Kyle, the Anglo family in the Buda ETJ, and the Black family in Bunton Creek who closed on new builds in the same season and live three streets apart to find their way to congregations that welcome them by name and call them to seek the welfare of this corridor as the place God has set them.

For the Church to Catch Up to the Housing

"And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved."

Kyle and Buda's church-to-population ratio now sits at roughly 1 active church per 2,503 residents, close to the metro-wide average. Several congregations in this CCD have been planted since 2014, including Vertical Chapel in 2014, Heirloom Church and The Vine Community Church both in 2024, and Sozo Church Kyle-Buda in 2026. That is meaningful planting momentum for the size of the region. And yet the population has outpaced it by multiples. Pray for church planters called specifically to the new subdivisions of east Kyle and the FM 1626 corridor north of Buda. Pray for sending churches in Austin, Round Rock, San Marcos, and the Hill Country willing to release leaders and finances to start new works in this CCD. Pray for existing Kyle and Buda pastors to find one another in planting conversations rather than in planting competition, and for planters to commit to the long seasons that bilingual, multi-cultural ministry requires. Pray too that this CCD would send even while it receives, carrying leaders and prayer south into San Marcos, where the median household income is $51,139, and east into Lockhart, where a Hispanic-majority community of 31,133 is served largely by congregations too small and too unconnected to be known from the outside. A church here does not need to have arrived before it gives.

For the Renewal of the Historic Congregations

"I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first."

The oldest congregations in this CCD, including First Baptist Church Kyle since 1872, Kyle United Methodist Church and Buda United Methodist Church since 1880, First Baptist Church Buda and Hays Hills Baptist Church since 1882, Immanuel Baptist Church since 1886, St John's Lutheran Uhland since 1889, St. Anthony Marie de Claret Catholic Church since 1909, and the Church of St Michael since 1924, have held continuous witness through more than a century of change in Hays County. They have buried generations, married the grandchildren of their founders, and now sit in neighborhoods that look very little like the ones they were planted into. Pray for these congregations to find second and third winds. Ask the Lord to knit the German Lutheran heritage of Uhland, the Tejano Catholic heritage of the Camino Real, and the Anglo Baptist and Methodist heritage of old Kyle and Buda together with the new families moving into their pews. Pray especially for the historic Methodist congregations of Kyle and Buda as they navigate denominational seasons of change, that the Lord would deepen rather than dissipate their witness.

For the Spanish-Speaking Church Already Gathered Here

"After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb."

Hispanic residents are 47.6 percent of this CCD, the largest single ethnic group, and Kyle and Buda holds at least 12 Spanish-language or bilingual congregations. That is the deepest Spanish-speaking church cluster of any CCD studied to date in the Greater Austin MSA, and it includes Santa Cruz Catholic Church, St. Anthony Marie de Claret Catholic Church, the Church of St Michael in Uhland, Hope Church and Iglesia Esperanza, Primera Iglesia Bautista, Monte Del Olivar Christian Center, Monte Del Olivar Praise Christian, Centro Cristiano Nueva Vida, Camino Al Rey, Centro De Liberacion Esmirna, Iglesia Cristiana Puerta Del Cielo, and the Spanish-language Seventh-day Adventist congregation in Kyle. Pray that the Church here would not see this footprint as a separate ministry lane but as the heart of the gospel's work in this region. Pray for these congregations to be strengthened, resourced, and seen. Pray for English-speaking pastors to learn the names of their Spanish-speaking counterparts and to cross denominational, linguistic, and cultural streets toward them. Pray for shared prayer, shared meals, and shared mission to become ordinary across the language line in Kyle and Buda rather than occasional.

For the Commute Out and the Witness Home

The average worker in Kyle and Buda commutes 35.6 minutes each way, more than 8 minutes longer than the MSA average and one of the longest commutes of any CCD in Greater Austin. Roughly 30 percent of workers travel 45 minutes or more each way. Believers in this CCD spend their working hours across South Austin, downtown Austin, the Tesla and tech corridors east of the city, San Marcos, and the warehouses and job sites along I-35. Pray for faithful Monday-through-Friday witness in those workplaces. Pray for believers in healthcare, technology, education, construction, logistics, government, and the trades to see their labor as kingdom work rather than as the price of a Kyle or Buda zip code. Pray against the idols that ride the commute home with them, which in this region are not primarily ambition but exhaustion, isolation, and the quiet drift of a family life squeezed between sunrise and sunset.

For Mercy and Justice Infrastructure to Rise Up

"Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter?"

Kyle and Buda carries a near-silent mercy and justice infrastructure. The Greater Austin Mission Society research identifies only a handful of faith-forward non-profits coded to this CCD, several of them likely headquartered here by zip code rather than by active local ministry, against a population of more than 132,000 residents. Pray for the Church in Kyle, Buda, and Uhland to feel this absence as a burden and an invitation. Pray for local congregations to birth new ministries of mercy, recovery, foster care, youth development, workforce support, pregnancy resource care, and refugee welcome that are rooted in this CCD rather than headquartered a drive away. Pray for the deacon boards, missions committees, and household budgets that will quietly fund these ministries into existence over the next decade. And pray for the pastors who will have to be willing to share credit, space, and volunteers across congregational lines for this infrastructure to rise.

For Families, Schools, and the Next Generation

"Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."

Family households are 71.2 percent of all households in this CCD, married-couple families are 53.5 percent, and the Hays Consolidated Independent School District alone enrolls more than 23,000 students across Kyle, Buda, Uhland, and the surrounding farmland. Pray for Christian families across this CCD to disciple their children with intentionality, for Hays CISD and the small Niederwald and Uhland school communities to be served by praying teachers, counselors, coaches, and volunteers, and for the Church to take seriously the catechesis of a generation that will shape Greater Austin in 2040 and beyond. Pray also for single parents, working mothers and fathers, and grandparents raising children in this CCD, and for the new ministries of pregnancy resource care, foster welcome, and family support that have not yet been planted here to be born from the prayers of God's people in this region.

For Pastors and Ministry Leaders Across Kyle, Buda, and Uhland

"I pray also... that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me."

The 53 active churches of this CCD span Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, Lutheran, Episcopal, Anglican, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, Assemblies of God, Church of Christ, Seventh-day Adventist, and a wide range of non-denominational and bilingual traditions. They worship in English, Spanish, and several blends of the two. Their leaders are often stretched thin, often isolated from one another across denominational, ethnic, and language lines, and in several cases running small congregations without a website, a network of peers, or a regular rhythm of prayer with others in the region. Pray for pastors and ministry leaders to find one another across these lines, for honest friendships to form between the Baptist pastor in old Kyle and the non-denominational planter in the newest Buda subdivision, for the Catholic priests of Santa Cruz, St. Anthony, and St Michael to be known and honored by their Protestant neighbors, for the LCMS pastor at St John's Uhland and the OPC pastor at Hays County to share a table, and especially for Spanish-speaking pastors to be drawn into the wider fellowship of the CCD rather than held on its periphery. Unity here will not be forged at a conference. It will be forged in the shared burden of a region that is forming faster than any one tradition can catch.

For a Region Blessed in Order to Bless

"Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."

Kyle and Buda has been blessed. The numbers are plain. Median household income above the MSA average, homeownership well above the metro, a population that is young, rooted in family households, and unusually diverse for the southern edge of Greater Austin. The Lord has not arranged this for the comfort of one corridor. He has arranged it so that the nations gathered in this CCD might know him, and so that the gospel that is preached in Spanish and English across these 53 sanctuaries might run further out into Hays County, into San Marcos, into the Caldwell County farmland to the east, and beyond. Pray that the God who is doing a new thing in Kyle and Buda would be confessed in old Kyle, old Buda, and old Uhland as the God who has done this before, who is doing it again, and who intends to be glorified in the gathering. Pray for the peace of this CCD to run deeper than its growth rate, for the historic Methodist sanctuaries and the newest 2026 plant to recognize one another as siblings, and for the new arrivals from every nation under heaven to inherit not just affordable homes but a region whose churches have been made ready to welcome them. Ask the Lord to make Kyle and Buda a region that is blessed in order to bless, and where the prayer of Jesus, in Kyle and Buda as it is in heaven, begins to be answered along the I-35 frontage roads, the bilingual classrooms, and the historic squares of Hays County's northern corridor.

The prompts above are a starting point, not a ceiling. Here are four practical ways to take this prayer further into the life of Kyle and Buda.

Walk the CCD. Pick a corridor or neighborhood in Kyle and Buda and walk it slowly. Walk Center Street in old Kyle from First Baptist to St. Anthony Marie de Claret. Walk Main Street in old Buda from Buda UMC to Santa Cruz Catholic. Walk the Plum Creek and Bunton Creek subdivisions where Heirloom, Radical, and Vertical Chapel have all planted in the last decade. Walk the FM 1626 corridor where Hays Hills Baptist, Bannockburn Buda-Kyle, and Living Word Lutheran sit within a mile of one another. Stop in front of schools, city buildings, apartment complexes, the H-E-Bs, the taquerias, and the gathering places that quietly hold the rhythms of bilingual life in this corridor. Pray over what you see. Ask God to move in the specific people and institutions that shape daily life along that stretch of ground. Prayer walking turns abstract petitions into embodied ones and tends to change the one who walks as much as the region being prayed for.

Map the CCD. Use the demographic picture in this guide as a starting point and sketch a simple map of your own neighborhood or area of Kyle and Buda. Mark the Hays Consolidated Independent School District attendance zones, the historic cores of old Kyle and old Buda, the small farming community of Uhland, the newer subdivisions filling the ground between Kyle and Buda along I-35 and FM 1626, and the places your family already lives, works, and drives. Let the map expose where the gospel is already at work, where it is absent, and where the church might be invited in next. Pray for the CCD like you would pray for a person. Write down two lists. First, what you love about this region, the gifts and beauty and strengths that are worth naming in thanksgiving, the deep Tejano inheritance of South Central Texas carried by Catholic and bilingual congregations, the small-town dignity of old Kyle and old Buda, the young families bringing new life into historic pews, the unusually rich Spanish-language church footprint that few other CCDs in the metro can match. Second, what you lament in this region, the gospel deficit created by two decades of housing outpacing church planting, the near-silent local mercy and justice infrastructure, the isolation of Spanish-speaking pastors from their English-speaking peers, and the many congregations still too little known to the wider body. Bring both lists before the Lord. Loves become the material of worship, and laments become the material of intercession.

Pray Together. The prompts in this guide are written to be prayed out loud by a gathered group, not only read privately. Invite two or three other pastors, ministry leaders, or intercessors from across traditions in Kyle and Buda to pray through this guide together on a rhythm, whether weekly, monthly, or in a standing prayer gathering.
