State of the City is published by the Greater Austin Mission Society. The Society exists to serve, connect, and support the churches, ministries, nonprofits, leaders, and disciples of Austin, so that together the whole Church can advance the gospel, care for the marginalized, and equip leaders for faithful service.

This site holds what we have learned about the church in Austin: who lives in each division of the metro, which congregations are already at work there, and how to pray for both. The church data rebuilds every month, and our Substack is the letter that interprets it.

We mean to give this work away. The site is built so that another city could run it on its own ground, and we intend to make the code and the data freely available so that one can. You do not have to give us anything to read it.

We are not the authority on the church in Austin. We are one group of people trying to see this city clearly and to help others see it too. Where we have it wrong, we would rather hear it than keep publishing it.
