Pleasant Hill Baptist Church

Church · Baptist

Pleasant Hill Baptist Church gathers at 6709 Circle "S" Road in south Austin, half a mile west of Interstate 35 by way of the William Cannon Drive exit. The congregation dates to about 1870, and the Texas Freedom Colonies Project, an academic project documenting Texas settlements founded by formerly enslaved people, records Pleasant Hill Baptist Church moving to south Austin about 1885 and settling at this address. In its own words the church is "150 years old, still with the serenity & sweet nature of a bygone era when doors were left unlocked and neighbors gathered on porches to sing gospel hymns." Sunday begins with coffee and snacks at 9:15, Bible study at 9:30 and worship at 10:30, and the congregation's own calendar has carried monthly men's and women's groups, prayer nights and evangelism nights.
