Union Hill Baptist Church

Union Hill Baptist Church, which its own history page also names Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church, is a historically Black Missionary Baptist congregation on FM 969 in Bastrop, Texas. In its own account it has been "the heart of Utley, Bastrop, and Elgin communities" for over a hundred years and was organized on the first Sunday in April 1864. A new building was erected in 1939 with the help of members and the community, the church was remodeled in 1958, an annex was added in 1976 and central heating and air conditioning installed in 1979, and the congregation entered a new sanctuary in March 1988. Worship was held on first and third Sundays for many years until February 2010, when the church elected to gather every Sunday. Its stated purpose is "to equip and grow a fellowship of believers in Christ and make more followers of Christ by teaching, training, and baptizing in the name of the Father, Son, and The Holy Spirit," and its church covenant opens by professing faith in "the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour." Its published ministries and annual programs include choir and usher annuals and a fifth-Sunday board shared with neighbouring congregations.
