The Church on the Hill
Church · Baptist
Church On The Hill is a Baptist congregation on FM 1431 in Jonestown, Texas, on the north shore of Lake Travis. In its own words it is "a Bible-based family of Christian believers inspired to commit ourselves to the will and way of the Lord Jesus Christ," and its vision is "to be a church that fully fulfills the Great Commission." It traces its beginning to a first service on January 30, 1962 in the former Travis Peak School No. 1, meeting without water, light or heat; it became known as Northwest Baptist Chapel, then South Jonestown Baptist Church after a founding resident of Jonestown donated two and a half acres of hillside land, holding its first service on the hill on October 6, 1963. It was renamed First Baptist Church of Jonestown in 1984 and took its present name in 2017 after a replanting process guided by the Williamson County Baptist Association. During the 1970s the congregation was involved in planting three area churches and was named Church of the Year by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in 1973, 1974 and 1975. Its published beliefs follow the Baptist Faith and Message in form, affirming the Scriptures as God's revelation "without any mixture of error," one God revealed as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Christ conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary who "in His death on the cross... made provision for the redemption of men from sin," and salvation "offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour." It hosts a food pantry and clothing closet alongside youth and children's ministries.
