St. John's Methodist Church in Georgetown traces its history to Swedish immigrant families who built their first church building in 1882 as the Swedish Methodist Episcopal Brushy Church. At its present home on East University Avenue since 1906, the congregation left The United Methodist Church in 2023 and is part of the Global Methodist Church.
