Network or citywide ministry · Network or Coalition
St John Regular Baptist Association is an association of Regular Baptist churches organized in Austin in 1867. In its own account, two years after the Civil War four ministers from different parts of Texas met under a large oak tree in Wheatsville, Austin Texas and divided the state into Baptist associations. First called the Travis County Association, it began with eight pioneer churches and about 300 members and grew into what it describes as the largest association for African Americans, establishing an orphanage and school and holding encampment grounds in North Austin. It continues to serve member churches through its auxiliaries and Congress.
