Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church

Church · Baptist

Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church is a Primitive Baptist congregation on FM 20 about six miles east of Bastrop, Texas, organized in 1872 and worshipping on its present site since 1963. In its own words it 'holds the honor of being the Mother Church of Black Primitive Baptist congregations in Bastrop, Travis, and surrounding counties.' It hosted the first Annual Session of the Providence District Association in 1873 and helped establish Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church in Cedar Creek in 1884; its 1890 building served, as its history page puts it, 'like many early Black churches', as both sanctuary and community school until it was lost to fire in 1915.
