Rising Star Baptist Church, which publishes its full name as Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church, is a historically Black congregation on East Twentieth Street in Austin, Texas, and a member of the St. John Regular Baptist Association. It was founded on May 19, 1928 by eight charter members, with borrowed membership from David Chapel Baptist Church and the assistance of several Austin Baptist ministers, and held its first service the following morning while carrying a founding debt of two thousand dollars. Its own history records that the women of the congregation carried much of its finances and business in the early years, when many of the men left the area for work.
