Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church is a historically Black Baptist congregation on Thaxton Road in far south Austin, Texas. It was organized in July 1878 by nine families, fifteen people in all, three years after the end of slavery, and takes its name from the valley north of its present site. Its first building, shared on alternating Sundays with a Methodist congregation, burned; a founding member then provided land at the current location. The congregation passed through a silent period from December 1972 to November 1974, when a single deacon maintained the building before it was revived. Its published articles of faith cover Scripture, God, mankind, salvation, the Christian life and the church, and its ministries include a monthly outreach distributing food and supplies to roughly 350 people experiencing homelessness in downtown Austin.
