Pleasant Bethany Missionary Baptist Church
Church · Baptist
Pleasant Bethany Missionary Baptist Church is a historically Black congregation on Church Street in Elgin, Texas, east of Austin, and a member of the St. John Regular Baptist Association. Founded in July 1905, it worshipped first under a tree, then in a brush arbor, then in a box building, before moving in the early 1920s into a white frame building that had housed Elgin's First Methodist Church. That building was destroyed by fire on December 31, 1967; the congregation met in the Masonic Lodge hall for some two years and seven months and dedicated its present building on July 5, 1970. It states its mission as seeking the kingdom of God through worship, communicating God's love by meeting the needs of others, and gathering where the Bible is taught and the Gospel preached.
