Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church is a historic AME congregation in East Austin, organized in 1870 when a group of Black men and women gathered in the home of Tempie Washington to worship. Its early members helped establish Paul Quinn College in 1872, and its sanctuary at 1101 East 10th Street carries a Texas Historical Commission marker.
